Todd Agnew revisits David & Goliath : 2009-10-29

On October 23 my wife and I enjoyed a Building 429 / Todd Agnew concert with our friends Kenny and Tracy (he's the worship pastor at our church). I enjoyed our meet and greet / devotion time with the bands beforehand, second-row seats and great music, but for me the coolest thing was hearing Todd Agnew's story about David and Goliath. It was hilarious hearing him tell the story of "Cheese Boy" delivering food to the troops, but the best part was the theological insight.

Todd pointed out that when we think we're David and our giants get back up again we feel like total losers. What we fail to realize is that we were never "David" to begin with--we're the helpless troops of Israel, cowering before the enemy until a substitute takes our place and wins the day. He's the one who conquers the giant, not us. David foreshadowed his descendent Jesus, the ultimate substitute who conquers all.

Who said Christian rockers have to be shallow?

I failed to realize this as well, Randy. Great point.

Yes, Marc, I was impressed. How often do you hear "re-usable" theological statements at a good old rock concert?
