Do you have any comments on this latest craze, "the secret." It was on Oprah Winfrey a week ago and it seems to becoming very popular, even among christians. I would like any feedback you could give me.I did a little checking and replied:
Thank you,
Cindy
Hi Cindy,Anyone out there familiar with "The Secret"?
The movie is the basic "power of positive thinking" New Agey sort of junk that's popular on Oprah. Rather than relying on God, you rely on your own positive thoughts to create your own reality. Any Christians who fall for this simply don't know much about Biblical teaching, since a Christian worldview has nothing in common with "the secret."
Thanks for taking the time to write.
Ace, thanks for the link. Stackhouse does a good job of examining "The Secret."
Hi, and thank you all for the information you have shared. I checked out Stackhouse's writing on "The Secret", as well as James White's. Well written. I would also like to add the following site to check out, written by Marcia Montenegro, who came out of the New Age movement into Christianity: http://cana.userworld.com/cana_Secret.html . I seem to be the one out, amongst my nonChristian coworkers, but I would say to steer clear of this craze. Of course, my coworkers think I am not 'thinking positively', to say such a thing. But we have joy and comfort and hope in Jesus Christ for which we need no further secret.
Thanks for posting, Julie. I'll check out the link you gave.
Thanks, Matt. Here's the link. Mohler concludes, "There is no real secret to The Secret. It is just the same old self-worship packaged for a new generation."
He includes a link to an audio talk on the subject, as well as another article.
Randy, you quote Al Mohler as saying "It is just the same old self-worship packaged for a new generation." Are you sure he wasn't referring to the Emerging Church? You know, the old kind of non-Christians?
Hi Randy - Been hearing more and more about this newest craze. I came across this earlier today and thought it was on target:
